‘justified, sensible, logical, or acceptable; something that can be conceded to’, also: ‘I consider this argument, reason, emotion,, etc., to be justified’

Initially, the term was used in online discourse (e.g., in chats or on social media) to refer to an argument, reason, response, emotion, decision, or choice deemed justified, logical, or acceptable by the speaker. Over time, it gained popularity among  younger people, who now use it in everyday conversation – both online and offline.

The word also started to be used as a reaction to a statement, argument, reason, emotion, or choice, meaning ‘that makes sense’, ‘that is justified’, or ‘I acknowledge this as valid/legimate in this situation, so I agree with it, or at least I can see your point’.

‘Valid’ is sometimes used ironically when a speaker doubts the validity of someone’s explaination but wants to cut the discussion short wirh a phrase like alright or fair enough.

Furthermore, the word often does not imply full agreement with the speaker’s entire statement, but rather the acceptance of a single point or argument as valid.
