‘alternatywka’

The term ‘altka’ originated as a reductive-suffixal derivative of ‘alternatywka’ and is used in youth slang, especially on TikTok. It refers to a girl with an alternative style, a distinctive appearance, and unconventional interests. This person usually diverges from popular trends and the mainstream – she dresses in an original way, often wearing darker or unusual clothes, and experiments with makeup and hairstyles. She listens to less commercial music, e.g., indie, rock, or hyperpop.

‘Altka’ is seen as someone authentic, creative, and carving her own path, in contrast to individuals who represent a more ‘standard’/’avarage’ style, sometimes referred to as ‘basic’.
